Deep Tissue – This technique is used to release chronic muscle tightness or tension.  It is achieved through more direct pressure to specific areas.  Work is done below the surface of the skin to the muscle layers below.  Friction applied directly to the muscle fibers helps to release “knotty” areas and increase circulation to chronically tight muscles.  Ah!  Relief at last!

CORE Myofascial Therapy – Owner Amie Uss is certified in the CORE Myofascial Therapy Technique.

What is Fascia?  Fascia is a connective tissue which wraps bone, individual muscle fibers, and muscle bundles.  It envelops whole muscle groups and wraps the entire outer surface of the body, below the skin, like a tight elastic body stocking.  50 to 55% of muscle is made up of fascia which shares many of the properties of muscle such as contractibility and elasticity.  It supports and stabilized muscles and muscle attachments.  Fascia plays a critical role in the dynamic relationship between posture and structural alignment.  The bodies circulation is partly regulated by fascia and if fascia becomes tight or thickens it can cause chronic passive congestion and will facilitate inflammation and infections.

CORE Myofascial Therapy is a series of applications which improve the body's alignment and flexibility.  Restrictions and tightness are relieved and fascail function is greatly improved!

Along with the CORE Myofascial Therapy sessions the client will also learn a greater sense of neurosomatic awareness.  A base assessment will be done on each client at their first session and physical goals will be set. Further assessments will be made before each additional session to enable the client to track their progress.  Feel the difference!

FAQs

Did you know that the recorded history of massage therapy goes back at least 4,000 years and can be seen in the Sumeria, Egyptian, Chinese, Indian, Greek, and Roman cultures?

Q: Who can benefit from Massage Therapy?

A: Almost everyone!  Anyone seeking relief and relaxation, the chronically ill, anyone recovering from illness or injury, pregnant women, and athletes will all benefit from massage therapy.  Massage is also a very effective tool in preventive medicine or to enhance wellness because it boosts the immune system.

Q: Will I be naked during my massage?

A: Great question!

Many people are hesitant to try massage simply because it unfamiliar to them or they may have seen unrealistic depictions of massage on TV or in the movies.  The scary scenario usually shows a person lying mostly naked on a cold vinyl massage table draped only in a tiny towel being pummeled by the massage therapist.  That is not the way massage is generally done.

In most massage practices the table is set up just like a bed with bottom and top sheets and a warm blanket.  Some therapists even use table warmers to ensure their clients are comfortable!

The client is usually asked to remove any clothing from the areas that will be worked on.  For a typical full body massage the client will remove everything except their underpants if they don’t want to be completely naked.  The client is given complete privacy while undressing and getting under the covers and the therapist will always knock before coming into the room.  So the answer to question of whether you will be naked is “yes” but in no way will you be exposed!

During the massage session the therapist will only undrape the part of the body being worked on and at no time will your genitals or breasts be undraped.  When one section of the body is completed the therapist will cover the client back up before moving on to the next section.  You stay warm mostly covered throughout the massage!  At the end of the session the therapist will leave the room so that client can get dress in private.

Q:  Will the massage be painful?

A: A massage should never be painful!  The therapist will always check in during the massage to make sure the client is feeling comfortable, safe, and relaxed.  All massage should be done at the comfort level of the client.  Our goal is to make the client feel good, not feel pain or discomfort.  Some clients enjoy a deeper tissue massage but it should never cause any more discomfort than stretching a really tight muscle.  Some people describe it as a good “hurt” that quickly dissipates as the muscles relax.

Q:  How do I know what length of time the massage session should be?

A: That will depend on a few things such as the type of massage you are getting and the reason for the session.  For example if you are experiencing stress related symptoms you may benefit from a 1 hour session.  If you are seeking treatment of a neck or shoulder problem a 1/2 hour may work for you or if you need extensive work in many areas you may wish to have a longer 1 ½ hour session.  Your therapist will be best able to address your individual needs once you discuss what you are hoping to achieve during your sessions.

Q: I suffer from a chronic illness.  Should I talk to my doctor before getting a massage?

A:  It is always a good idea to talk to your doctor about massage if you are not in good health.  Most of the time massage will be a great adjunct to your current care and will not cause any problems.  Your physician can also tell you if any medications you are on may be a contraindication to massage such as chemotherapy.  A good massage therapist will always work with you to follow any of your doctor’s recommendation.
